I have this  downloaded a  wallet from iota.org, once down loaded, the option was to use an existing wallet, or create a new . I selected an existing , via Nano . I downloaded into Nano iota the necessary as advised.

There was  no option   to "  put  password or username ", it was only as below.

When i requested to use an existing wallet, ( on the bottom left), it said create a name , i kept to the same name as before.

I put the same index as a had before created.

and then i had to a password in twice.

It then said creating seeds please wait.

When the account opened, my IOTA was not there.

My question, has the generation for new seeds removed the old seeds of iota off the Nano, and thereby i ve lost them forever .

And of course the new seeds created is a new wallet which has nothing in.

Basically before the hack i had a sizeable quantity of iota , and before being aware not to try to access the wallets, i tried several times to access with any luck.I then read they we should not try to access our wallets things were resolved.

Hi @HardTiger

welcome to Hello IOTA!

First of all, Ledger accounts were never affected by the Trinity hack, so that’s nothing you need to worry about.
If you do wish to check if your IOTA are still where they should be, you can just look up your address on https://thetangle.org/.

Now, the Ledger seed is always generated from your personal Ledger (setup with your specific 24 words) + index number.
Every time you use the same Ledger (same 24 words) + the same index number it will always create the same seed.
So the answer is: No, it’s not possible that you have removed, deleted or somehow overwritten the „old seed“ from your Ledger.
Because if you used the same Ledger + same index the seed will be the same old seed and not new at all.

Please double check that you’ve really chosen the correct index („Settings“ -> „Account settings“ -> „View seed“). If your index is correct and you still can’t see your IOTA, maybe choose a different node and / or let Trinity do a snapshot transition („Settings“ -> „Account Settings“ -> „Tools“).

If you need further assistance I'd recommend you to join IOTA's Discord (https://discord.iota.org/) and ask in the #help channel.

I wouldn't be able to help anyone without thetangle.org-explorer. If you feel like you want to support its developer Mathieu Viossat in maintaining his service, please consider a donation to the address shown here: https://thetangle.org/about. Thank you!

Thank you for your assistance and assurances, i will try to work out the issue , however still i have problems with the above recommendations .

1) Discord, i cant see where it is within that i join the community of Iota, please see the link when im in discord after clicking on your invite
https://www.screencast.com/t/LzcGehAqj

2)As i ve downloaded the new wallet from iota.org, i think / believe i ve put in the correct index and password, when on the trinity and doing as advice going into
Settings“ -> „Account settings“ -> „View seed“  , its then says, seed export is not available for ledger account type .

I noted , it does not seem much difference if i have ledger nano open or not to view trinity. Trinity still is able to open and shows no difference.
Hope i m not bothering you too much, but thats if you can help guide me to solve the discord, issue then i can go there to ask for help.

@HardTiger
1) I’m not sure, have you tried clicking on the + on the left side, then „Join a server“ and paste the invite link?

2) Below the „seed export is not available for ledger account type“ it should also tell you the index number. Please check if that’s the same index that you noted down when you set up your Ledger with Trinity for the first time.

3) That’s right, as long as you only want to look at your account in Trinity, the Ledger doesn’t have to be connected. That is only required if you want do stuff, like send or receive. Not sure if Ledger needs to be connected for the snapshot transition, you’d just have to try and see.

4) Don’t worry, you’re not bothering anyone! It’s just that Discord has a lot more users and it’s better suited for this kind of issue because it’s a real time chat and not a forum.

Hi,

Thank you for your patience with me Smile

1) Please can you send me the invite link so i can paste it in for discord.

2) Yes i have checked that the index written down match to what is shown on trinity . How can i change if its not ?

3) Add to more confusion, i have another ledger nano ( yellow ) with iota which too has the same account names and passwords, and i had set up the same index .as the previous 1 ( black). Both are separate keys , but not sure how to check on trinity nano yellow.

thanks again

You're welcome, I'm happy to help if I can.

1) This in the only invite link I know of: https://discord.iota.org/. If it doesn't work for you, I don't know what to tell you.
Maybe try it with a different browser, but if we're lucky you might not need Discord for this anyway.

2) If the index Trinity shows you is not the one you wrote down, you can simply add another account with your black Nano and this time use the correct index number (see 3.)

3) Now, you having a second Nano is actually not adding to the confusion but most likely (hopefully) the solution to your problem! BigGrin
You can check your yellow Nano the same way you checked the black one.
Just add another account.: open Trinity -> click „Account“ -> „Add new Account“ -> connect and unlock your yellow Nano now -> "Do you need to create a new seed?" „No, I have one.“ and proceed with the correct index number.

If you still can't see your IOTA try a snapshot transition with yellow and black account.

Please let me know how it goes with the yellow one!

Thanks for you reply,

1)The link did not work on browser google or Firefox,  i ll try latter on IE.

2) I logged on to TRINITY , i  clicked on " add new account " /Restore from exisiting Ledger/ Opened Yellow NANO Ledger

Put in the index , pressed continue,

 this was the message received.

I tried with both index for both accounts created on Yellow , which were same as Black

I  feel we are slowly getting there.... thanks again.

I have no idea how to fix the Discord issue, sorry.

About Trinity: Normally if someone wants to use two different Ledger Nano accounts (= two different seeds), they would use the same Ledger device but two different indexes. That's actually what the index numbers are for: to have different accounts with one Ledger.
Now you are doing the opposite by using two different Ledger devices but the same index.

I think Trinity is a bit confused by your unusual approach.Hehe

Please try to first delete your black Nano accounts („Account settings“ -> „Delete account“) and then try to add the yellow Nano accounts again.
If that doesn’t work, you can reset your whole wallet (Trinity „Settings“ -> „Advanced Settings“ -> scroll down, „Rest wallet“) and set it up fresh with your yellow Nano.

Hi Alexa,

I had to finally delete the account of the  BLACK nano.

I  did as instructed with the YELLOW , and still the balance shows zero .

What can you suggest ?

Thanks again for your help.

@HardTiger
I’m so sorry that this is so complicated for you.
I really wish you could get help on Discord, but I don’t know how. Maybe log out of your already existing HARDTIGER Discord account and try the IOTA Discord invite link and create a brand new different Discord account for this?
I know that the same IOTA invite worked today for someone else, so the link itself is not broken.
While we’re stuck here, let’s make the best of it and see where we’re getting.

The hack simply wasn’t designed to compromise Ledgers, so please don't worry about the hack.

So, now you seem absolutely very sure that the YELLOW Nano is the correct one and not the black one?

In your last screenshot Trinity suggests that you go to Account Tools and perform a snapshot transition.
Have you tried that with all possible accounts?

Do you have any older seeds that you used before the Nanos?
If so, please check any old seeds as well, including a snapshot transition.

If that doesn’t work, can you tell me which address your funds should be at now? Or any address where they have been at some point?
If you could provide either an address or any transaction hash or bundle hash from the past that would be very helpful.
You might be able to get this information from your withdrawal history on the exchange platform where you bought your IOTA.
Please do not ever post any seeds or Ledger passphrases!

@HardTiger
I just found some suggestion on Discord for this issue as well:
"wait 2/3 minutes (after a snaphot transition I think)
If the balance remains 0 (zero), try to disable automatic node management in settings and then turn off the 'enable quorum' option.
Restart Trinity, insert password and again wait 2/3 minutes."

This seems to have worked for someone else, can't hurt to try I guess. It will require the correct account of course (correct Nano+correct index).
If you're still not 1000% sure which account is the correct one, you'll have to try all possibilities.

Hi Alexa,
Thanks for your help, and sorry im so useless. I appreciate your help.
The history :
I  bought Iota, a small amount, and put it in Black Nano, some how i could not access it, and thought, well in the future things will progress and there will be away to find it. (Perhaps in early 2018 it was not linked to Nano ledger not sure ).

As i could not figure it out, i then bought another Nano - ( Yellow ), and put a big balance on it via Trinity, and it was clear it was linked to Nano ledger.
I rarely went in Trinity, as it always feared any operation with in. However with in practices, i managed to do the basic, and i confirmed my index / accounts.

OK  i understand ,and feel rest assured the hack did not take via ledger, so it should be safe some where .

I ll  try your second recommendation and then via the exchange hunt the info as you had requested.

Also i try again for accord , i jsut cant see what im doing wrong across. Any how  we will resolve it some how.

You're not useless, you're just confused. BigGrin

The Ledger Nano support for IOTA was announced only in November 2018. Whatever transactions you did before this time had nothing to do with any Ledger Nano at all. So if you’ve made any transactions early 2018 you will have needed a seed to generate your receive address. If you still have this old seed, please check if it still has any balance.

The address you’ve provided has apparently never been used for anything. Did you get this address from the exchange platform where you bought your IOTA? Or is it simply the receive address your yellow Nano account is showing you in Trinity right now? Because that would be useless as Trinity will always give you a fresh receive address.
What do you see in Trinity when you go to "Account Settings" -> "View addresses"? Can you maybe post a screenshot?

@NICOLEISION: I'm pinging you, because I hope that you might be able to help HardTiger figure out how to get to the IOTA Discord.
Somehow the IOTA Discord invite link doesn't seem to work for him. Can you maybe tell him exactly what you did today to get to the IOTA Discord?

Dear Alexa,
Thanks again for all your help.
1)I  have a clear memory i used ledger, and the only notes i have show the index numbers usernames password to get in trinity of YELLOW .Ledger.
The string i gave you, i pressed Receive, and then copied what  i sent you. So as you mentioned its useless.
Any Iota bought was after Jan 1st 2018, and have only used Ledger.
I m confirmed the index is correct, for YELLOW. I had praticed it several time getting into it.

2)Discord, i have not tried to create a new account , i was a bit busy yesterday.

3) Isee in Trinity when you go to "Account Settings" -> "View addresses"?  screenshot BELOW
https://www.screencast.com/t/osVhQzYZUul

4) I  had tried below :

"wait 2/3 minutes (after a snaphot transition I think)
If the balance remains 0 (zero), try to disable automatic node management in settings and then turn off the 'enable quorum' option.
Restart Trinity, insert password and again wait 2/3 minutes."

Note sure what is " snaphot transition ", any how i still did those actions with out any success, balance is still zero.

5)Thinking back perhaps 6-8 months before the hack last few times i went into trinity, it was always difficult to log in, as it  said please try a different node, which was painful as i had to progress with different nodes each time in order to access trinity, and view balances.
I  had so much difficulty to access the BLACK nano after my initial purchase and deposit , that i decided to get YELLOW, and with change of computers( dying), jsut downloaded a new wallet and started again.I  praticed access, depositing, familiarizing my self with the basic functions, and even helped my friend, with transactions.
We were both aware, we did not need to generate any seed and write it down, as we did it via the ledger.

I  bought from MoonPay - but they dont have any record of my account . Perhaps they allowed you to purchase with out having an account.
Also i bought from  Binance, but im having difficulty with this history withdrawl feature setting the date range.

Sorry for these problems we need a  tall beer when we crack this.

Ciao

Alexa,

That address, is of Yellow Receive, where i expect the Iota to be.

@HardTiger

@HardTiger
Hey Ian,
thanks for the screenshot and all the info.
Unfortunately I'm short on time today, I hope I’m going be less busy tomorrow.

In the meantime, please keep on trying to get on Discord, as I might run out of ideas soon.
Maybe you could also ask how to get Discord access on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Iota/.

And please perform the snapshot transition with all possible accounts: „Account Settings“-> „Tools“ -> "Snapshot transition" -> wait 2/3 minutes, see instructions above…

And please keep trying to find out your withdrawal address from Binance.
I know it’s possible, but I can’t guide you because I don’t have a Binance account myself.
Maybe they also sent you some e-mail to confirm your withdrawal? We’re do need the address you used to withdraw your funds to.
I never used Moonpay either, so I don’t know how to get info about your IOTA purchase from them.
Anything you can find will help.

A beer will indeed be well deserved if we manage to solve this...

I wouldn't be able to help anyone without thetangle.org-explorer. If you feel like you want to support its developer Mathieu Viossat in maintaining his service, please consider a donation to the address shown here: https://thetangle.org/about. Thank you!

Hi Alexa,

1) Discord account deleted
2) Set up new Discord account with new email on Internet Explorer . Using same link as above you had sent me , and that of iota web site
but .........say the link has expired.
https://www.screencast.com/t/W0rzJc1rz

Also used the link with in the ITOA  ORG SITE, and the issue is still saying the same.

3) Doing the snap shot, i was getting timed out of Trinity, so i moved it to 60min. Originally set for 3 min, then i moved it to 15min,
Prior, to knowing how to do the snap shot  i disabled automatic node, and turned off the enable quroum option.
so i moved it back , and now trying with the snap shot...... It took a while after several attempts to get it to work . Once it did what it needed to do the balance still showed zero.

i then tried and finally found where to do do this ....
https://www.screencast.com/t/vFmA01WBv

here i switch as advised.......
https://www.screencast.com/t/ayHirlwML
Switched off Trinity ....

had a coffee, and said  3 hail marys .......
Balance showed " ZERO "

Switch on Ledger to Iota  open it,,,, and still shows  " Zero " (A  coffee and hail marys didnt help )

Done and manual sync........... nano showed generating address .........

still shows zero.

4) BINANCE, i have asked for help locating the address, where my iota was sent to .... i looked with the platform, but it was not functioning correctly....

Thanks for your attention,

HardTiger
