Hello,

A while ago, due to risk of scamming exchanges, i decided to store my iota local on iota wallet.

For this i used the bitfinex node - http://iota.bitfinex.com:80. After this i did access my iota several times without any problems and it worked well.
Now for some time already this node is not accessible somehow, and every time when the wallet starts i get the message " can not connect to remote host"

I did write several times to bitfinex support about it, and support replies every time that they did contact the responsible agents for this, but nothing happens....

Can i access my iota via another node, and if so what should i do for this?

Hope somebody can help me because this is really taking to long now...

Hi @coincrusher,
thanks for your post and welcome to Hello IOTA!

You can use any node you want as long as it's in synch with the network.
To change your host node in the Lightwallet, go to "Tools" -> "Edit Node Configuration" -> and just select a different node from the dropdown menu.  If the two numbers in the bottom left corner of your wallet are the same, the node you've picked should be synched and ready to use.
You can also select "Custom" in the dropdown menu and paste in any node from this list:

Thanks for your quick reply.

I've already tried several other nodes, also custom ones, but then it shows balance 0.
But when i checked with the " balance finder tool" :https://forum.helloiota.com/802/IOTA-Balance-Finder-Tool, the balance shows up with my current seed, so it's somewhere, only  i don't have access to it?

@coincrusher
If you can’t see your balance in the wallet, the snapshot end of April will have erased your transaction history. That’s a normal occurrence. You can read more about it here: https://medium.com/@ralf/prepare-for-the-january-28-2018-iota-snapshot-10f565b371ab

Your balance should come back when you log into the wallet, got to the „Receive“-tab and generate and attach as many addresses as you’ve had before the snapshot happened. Like this:
