Hello and  @Winston thanks for offering to guide me through step by step.

I try to shorten my "still 0 balance" situation:
I tried many things to get my balance back (since nov 2017) Longer story is here: https://forum.helloiota.com/11011/RE-My-Balance-still-0-for-many-month#11242
-> found my frozen IOTA`s on the Snapshot. + I can proof my transactions from bitfinex to my wallet and that those frozen snapshots are mine.
-> did the reclaim tool through my wallet. I wrote down the transaction hash but not any address at the end of the reclaim process
-> after the i tried to reattach many times. I wonder why those earlier addresses are not anymore showing in the wallet history. Now there are only the last 5
Currently: Light wallet 2.5.6- IRI 1.4.2.1 // Earlier: Light wallet 2.3.0- IRI 1.2.1
One of my snapshot Hashes: L9ZCWOPMMLEW9KXFKVXTJI9VUKUZIBGT9QNXZSPBNKQCYTNZDILWWXAEUSHFCCQ9BMIWAGZUQHLXEDENW

Very much looking forward for your help and waiting for advice. Kai

@Kai Brown
Thanks for posting with these details. Have you done the Balance Finder Tool yet? It would probably be best to start with that so we have a clear understanding of which addresses hold your balance. (balance finder tool is in a pinned thread at the top of this subforum).

a pop up window came saying that i neew to download and install Xcode and Command Line Developer Tools.
This is not mentioned in the tutorial, what shall i do now?

Hi @Kai Brown,

sorry for stepping into your conversation with Winston like this.
But he hasn't been online for a while, so maybe he's taking some time off right now...
I'm sure he'll take over with you once he's back if we can't figure things out by then.

Now, you said you never wrote down any address at the end of the reclaim process, which implies that you might have never fully completed it.
Have you ever seen a screen like this at the end of any of your reclaim attempts?

I wouldn't be able to help anyone without thetangle.org-explorer. If you feel like you want to support its developer Mathieu Viossat in maintaining his service, please consider a donation to the address shown here: https://thetangle.org/about. Thank you!

@CryptoHamster (Alexa) I am travelling right now-thats why my answer is late.
Thanks for stepping in. I think i havent got this message. I made a screenshot from a similar "Trasnaction Hash" window during the process. But i cannot be sure. The weird thing is that this address should be store in the history, or not!?  But since a while all my "reattach to tangle" actions dissapeared from the history, without me doing any changes. Best, Kai

Hi @Kai Brown,

welcome back! Please take all the time you need and come back anytime you want. We’ll be here :-)

Now, if the reclaim tool never gave you an address at the end and all you have are transaction hashes, then you might have never completed the reclaim process.

The history of your wallet being erased is probably caused by the snapshot end of January. It’s a normal occurrence, but you shouldn’t worry about this right now. You can also stop generating and attaching addresses because this can’t bring back your balance if your secured funds are still with the IOTA Foundation.

Since you said that you can’t be sure that you’ve completed the reclaim, I think you should do it again with the same old and new seed that you’ve used for reclaiming when you did it the first time (as long as your new seed is safe and not made by any seedgenerator!).

If you haven't done so already, please download the latest version of the wallet (currently 2.5.7) from here: https://github.com/iotaledger/wallet/releases

Before you use the reclaim tool:
    •    Go to Tools -> Edit Node Configuration -> choose one of the top nodes from this list https://iota.dance/nodes in the "Host"-dropdown menu.
    •    Set Min Weight Magnitude to "14"
    •    Set Curl Implementation to "CCurl implementation"
    •    Click SAVE
    •    Close the wallet and the restart it.

Then start the reclaim tool and follow the instructions. This time, make sure you get both, the proof and the reveal transaction confirmed.
Promote as often as you want to and reattach every 30 minutes until they are both confirmed.

In the end, the screen above needs to appear. Save the address somewhere.
After that, when you log into the wallet with your new seed, this address should be the first you can generate in the "Receive" tab.

When you've completed your reclaim, your balance will remain 0 until the IOTA Foundation processes the next batch of reclaims. We don't know when this will happen, you'll just have to wait for it. You can check from time to time if your funds have been returned by putting your address from the screen above in the search field here: https://thetangle.org

Please don't use your new seed for receiving any funds until all of your reclaimed IOTAs are back in your wallet.

Hope this helps! Let us know how it went...

Alexa

Hi Guys,
I am pretty new to the whole IOTA thing and have been experiencing the same thing: All my balances are zero.
Before the snapshot on Jan 28th my balances were fine. Then, when checking in a couple of days later, they were zero.
I did the recovery actions which were recommeded for reattaching my balances but nothing happened. I reattached about 80 times even though
only had had a few transactions overall.
As I am a rookie I would like to ask you guys if you can help me to decipher what was going on with my addresses?
I would greatly appreciate any help and would like to know if my IOTAs are still somewhere waiting to be reattached or if they did get stolen during that great IOTA robbery which happened around the same time.

My 3 addresses are:
ECCTBU9RLMRHBMAJVKCOPZDEUFAKFHNUCFLOXYRWNPDLXVL9CGERBD9AJADQGC9HIDFELTZGTRPXDYAJC9SETPSPDX

WGSAHVQSFHCZEUERYZVROMLQFSY9WUDGKDIQZWT9VZZNEPNKRKIDJHIZTWHLPMSWJKLXA9RPYVQQJTNJXKKVYOJXFW

DVGRWNFZJRDJAIFXZSHAABZQENKLCNDIZQFGWRJRVDXCQWFQAIJRGOXUO99JIHYBKDTPJGENBECZYVDKWSBXXDH9BA

THANK YOU !

HI @Tiota,

thanks for your post. Let’s look at your addresses one after the other:

1. You can see that there was a transaction on January 5th, that sent 125i from your first address to another one:
https://thetangle.org/bundle/DPECXFTTVNZF9JIN9GUWHKJUZBQZXWPKJCRGHHYK9IDBHGZNYNRFFLTYHWDQIFRGANDLQKFTSBXTLKWXY
… with the remainder from your first address (9.5 Mi) being sent here:
9JPTAJTXKPAUPTIQVZJRXGHHNNW9TOYYDUCJMULYSXCQLFQEDREVPNPQDYIBJAVYSPDP9NCJXUWWBAGICXLIVJZLNW

The 125i are still there. It’s impossible for me to say if that’s one of your own addresses, but 125i is not really worth worrying about it I guess.
https://thetangle.org/address/JSAOCMXHGFNSRUMJTOJPWHPEGEQSCAERKU9UJAXSGPRACJNWEBJVBWVCVMDEUURXOQGFZ9WHM9VXEGPIW
The 9.5 Mi from the remainder address have been transferred on January 27th:
https://thetangle.org/bundle/FBZOINNPY9DZRKBAJBAVOFJLIRCXYEIHRKHTCXXOAKRT9GPDBIQZQWJENDNTBQHY9GJQWICGC9JWJPU9D

2. The funds from your second address were transferred on January 23rd:
https://thetangle.org/bundle/QXA9QXDCTWSAVICDWAYXJY9EIFEWHI9TSZBJITLEXDAZNZICJEGDFJZAQHQUOKBNBROWNBUSQRUBJIRFY

3. The funds from your third address were also transferred on January 23rd:
https://thetangle.org/bundle/WDOWZDSORB99XGEU9YGALVHVKGITSZADWYAFIHGHRYUVW99BZHTUKCPUTOOGMSRKC9ZBH9UJNQOVQY9JB

If you haven’t made these transactions yourself, then your funds have been stolen. I’m sorry that I have to say this, but all three transactions look very much related to the seedgenerator thefts that you’ve mentioned, which started January 19th. Can you remember how you've created your seed?

However, there's nothing you can do now, except file a claim with your local (cybercrime) police and hope that the thief gets caught.
If the thief ever gets caught, you will have to provide proof that those stolen coins belong to you.
So even if you don't want to file a claim with the police, please make sure to keep your seed and all evidence of where your bought your coins from and where you sent them to afterwards (for example secure your trade history and your withdrawal history from your Bitfinex account or wherever you purchased your coins).

I'm very sorry that you've lost your funds!

Dear Alexa,
Thanks a lot for your great help. Very much appreciated!
Address 1 actually belongs to a friend to whom I sent some IOTA on that very day. So that's fine.
But the actions taken place regarding the other two addresses were not by me and therefore you are right by stating that these hint towards that major theft in January.
This really sucks!
I will see how much sense it makes to file a claim.
I generated my seed by using iotaseed.io. But I did it with my Wifi being switched off. Thought this would be safe?!

Thanks again and wishing you a nice Sunday!

Hi @Tiota,

you're welcome, even though this wasn't fun to help with. :-(
The way I understand it (I’m not a coder though), that site you used never generated truly random seeds, but only gave out different seeds that were already known to the owner of the website. I guess turning WiFI off or on wouldn’t have made much of a difference under such circumstances.
If you’re interested in how it happened, maybe you want to read this: https://thatoddmailbox.github.io/2018/01/28/iotaseed.html

Best thing you can do is to learn as much as you can from this, so nothing like it will ever happen to you again.

Yes, either its only purpose from the start was to steal seeds from people or it wasn't malicious in the beginning and someone manipulated it to do this.
We don't know. I hope they catch that criminal and put whoever did this to justice.

I'm not sure what that site is aiming at and if anything has been done yet with the data collected in that spreadsheet.
I think, I'd rather give my details to the police than type them into an online form, but that might just be me... :-)

Alexa

Dear Alexa @CryptoHamster

Thank you so much, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. I should have met you earlier.
You were right, i did not fully complete the reclaim process. Last time i closed the window to early as it did not progress,  as i thought it automatically confirmes.
Now i am stucked in the "Promote" part, but i am hopeful. Will let you know when i am done and confirmed.

Best, Kai

Hi Kai,

I know it’s frustrating, but you’re not alone.  Getting both transactions confirmed seems to be an issue that a lot of people had before you.

I never did the reclaim myself, so I’m not completely sure about some things.
But as long as you always use the same old and same new seed, you can’t „break“ anything by closing your wallet.

My guess would be that if you close the wallet during the reclaim process and start the reclaim tool again later, it will just have you start again from the beginning. Actually, when you run into a problem like that Request Error, I don’t see how you could solve it any other way but by starting over again…

I think that the Request Error indicates some node issue.
If I had to make a decision here, I’d close the wallet, restart it, change the node like described above and try again with the same old and new seed.
Try to promote the transactions immediately after the promote button shows up.

While your reveal or proof transaction is pending you could also copy the transaction hash and reattach/ promote the transaction on Ralf Rottman’s site  https://ralfr.github.io/iota-pow-er/promote.html while keeping your wallet open.

Unfortunately there’s no magic trick to help you, you’ll just have to try it again until both transactions get confirmed and it shows you the address in the end….

Dear Alexa @CryptoHamster,

Thanks again, and so so much. Now finally my reclaim was successful (after changing the node again) and i received the address.
YES, you are the best (for now).....and lets hope my IOTAS get returned soon.
There is hope,
Kai
